Reporting from, MICE industry a.k.a meeting incentive, convention, and exhibition as one of the most affected sectors of the Covid-19 pandemic now needs to prepare many things to re-organize events in accordance with the New Normal order. So, all participants participating in the exhibition, stakeholders, contractors and visitors will also need to pay attention to health protocols to anticipate the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus. Adaptation of the MICE sector in this new era is done starting from simple things which include checking body temperature, using masks and face shields , applying distance restrictions, as well as washing hands with soap or using a hand sanitizer regularly. The application of health protocols at each event aims to ensure the safety and health of all parties.

MICE industry is a priority for Kemenparekraf

MICE industry recovery during the New Normal period also received support from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf). Reporting from Kemenparekraf stated that currently, the MICE industry will be a priority in preparing a new normal order (New Normal). Therefore, the organizers of the activity can also use the hybrid concept in their events, which combines virtual events with live events (offline). While the Deputy of Operation Event Kemenparekraf / Baparekraf Rizki Handayani also stated that the MICE sector to be one of the business sectors contributing greatly to increase the income of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Indonesia.

Rizki also added that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a 90% cancellation and postponement of the event until the end of 2020. Therefore, to support the government’s efforts to cope with the spread of Covid-19, event organizers were expected to prepare themselves to anticipate changes in the MICE industry. It is estimated that there will be a shift in the trend of offline activities to online so that later virtual events will also have the potential to become new sources of income. Meanwhile, Kemenparekraf and industry players will support the growth of industrial capabilities, technology networks, and various innovations.

All you need do event organizers to hold the event

To hold an exhibition in the new normal period, event organizers can also adapt to the payment system, which is to switch to using non-cash payments, for example, such as using the QR Code payment option for ticket sales. In addition, event organizers also need to provide membership documents and coordinate with participants using an integrated system. To support the convenience of end access, event organizers can also rely on mobile apps that include features such as e-directory, e-catalog, as well as live streaming shows of exhibitions and concerts that are held. The switch to this online system will help visitors to enjoy the event while optimizing digital transactions that minimize physical contact.

Make regulations during the event

To ensure that health protocols are implemented optimally, event organizers also need to enforce regulations for visitors. For example, such as using a path with a minimum width of 3 meters, using a crowd controller, and limiting the number of visitors who can come to the booth . Also do disinfectant spraying regularly to maintain the hygiene of the venue. While in the food area, make sure all foods use food grade packaging that can only be used once (disposable).

Of course, we hope that this situation can soon recover so that economic activity, including exhibitions, can rise again. However, we also need to understand that post-pandemic conditions can no longer be the same as pre-pandemic conditions. The trend of the MICE industry will change and the business actors involved also need to make adjustments to face the challenges.
